The Angel CoFund was launched on the 29th of November 2011. Since launch we have completed investments into eighteen companies, across a range of sectors and stages of development. The portfolio of businesses we have supported to date is made up by:
Phase Vision, a Loughborough based company producing high accuracy industrial inspection equipment for the aerospace, nuclear and automotive industries. Their innovative ‘white light scanners’ enable more efficient manufacturing, delivering lower waste, cost and environmental impact.
Future Drinks, a Bristol based company that has developed an innovative range of healthy soft drinks under the brand name Koji. These have been successfully trialled in the UK and launched in the summer of 2012.
Enval, a Luton based company, using technology originally developed at the Department for Chemical Engineering at Cambridge University, to build commercial facilities for recovering aluminium from waste laminated packaging. No effective solution has previously existed for this process which results in the UK alone sending 14,000 tonnes of aluminium to landfill each year.
PlayJam, is the premier global platform for casual and social games on TV. By partnering with all major TV brands, they have created the largest and most vibrant games network for millions of players around the world.The PlayJam Platform provides a gateway for developers to enhance, monetize, distribute & promote their titles on TV. Designed to drive revenues and customer loyalty, their SDK’s rich tool-set facilitates a variety of purchasing models and effective advertising opportunities alongside the deployment of social and commercial in-game features. PlayJam has offices in San Francisco, London, Seoul and Kraków.
Leanworks (Yplan), was founded in February 2012 and has launched a mobile and online ticketing platform called YPlan. Their innovative app allows users to discover and purchase tickets (which may be at a discount) for events that take place in the vicinity, from the convenience of their smartphone. For the event organisers, YPlan represents an opportunity to market and sell unsold ticket inventory to nearby people.
Non-Linear Dynamics, a Newcastle based group of businesses, develops proteomics and metabolomics software. Blood contains all proteins therefore measuring proteins can aid the discovery of new drugs and diagnostics as blood contains good/healthy proteins as well as bad/bacterial and related protein contents. NLD software is designed to help generate reliable conclusions that are reproducible across laboratories.

CrowdVision, has developed an innovative software product that extracts crowd insights from video feeds in busy locations, enabling customers to understand and intervene in their crowds. The software has already been deployed at scale in Mecca where it helps to keep millions of pilgrims safe as they attend the Hajj. Beyond crowd safety it can provide accurate crowd counts, improve pedestrian flows and help businesses optimise their operations based on live and accurate crowding data.

MoBank is a mobile commerce specialist that provides end to end mobile shopping capability to retailers. The Company has created a standardised mobile commerce platform, MoPowered, which can be used by merchants of any size on a pay-per-purchase basis; enabling retailers to launch their own-branded mobile shopping service easily and cheaply.

Micrima is developing radiowave radar technology for medical imaging applications, primarily for breast cancer. Micrima’s patented techniques will enable breast screening to become safer, more convenient, more accessible, more desired by the female population and more economically viable in an increased number of countries, and locations within those countries. The technology is non-invasive, non-ionising and inexpensive. It has benefited from extensive validation in the laboratory and is now undergoing clinical trials.

HipSnip is a distributed network of shopping Q&A sites. Retailers and publishers embed HipSnip into their sites, giving their audiences an easy way to get great shopping advice before they buy. Shoppers simply ask a question on a HipSnip powered site, which is sent to the best people to answer.

Ebury Partners is a boutique FX specialist, built on 20 years’ experience, cutting-edge technology and a dedication to providing a highly-professional, prudent and effective service to every client. Ebury specialise in international payments, risk management and providing treasury services to SMEs.

Advanced LEDs Ltd, based in the East Midlands, is an established LED infrastructure lighting company designing lighting applications in such a way as to gain the maximum benefits for both efficiency and life expectancy for the LEDs.

Gcrypt has developed a range of patented, innovative and proprietary web-based/server-side software solutions that provide businesses and consumers with a simple, compelling and cost effective email and e-document encryption service.The software addresses the increasing demand for protection of confidential data both in transit over the Internet and whilst at rest on the recipient’s email client.
Sanona is the UK’s largest online Pay Per View Hindi movie service, offering the very latest films from Bollywood and beyond, delivered directly via the internet into your home. The video ‘on demand’ streaming service provides members with instant access to the Hindi or regional film of their choice. Sanona also gives customers a unique opportunity to watch films not released in the UK. The company is building strong relationships with the major Bollywood film studios in the sub-continent and are adding to the film library on a weekly basis.
Upad has taken the traditional high street lettings agent model and deconstructed it, to provide a suite of services to allow landlords to self-manage and self-market their properties nationally. This offers immediate cost savings over using a traditional agent; it also allows landlords to keep control of their businesses. Tenants find a great choice of properties from professional landlords, and are treated openly and fairly throughout. In 2012, over 120,000 tenants have used the Upad service resulting in thousands of successful tenancies. The word is spreading and Upad is growing fast.
LumeJet is a UK-based technology innovator with extensive expertise in photonic (light-based) imaging systems. It is the developer of the LumeJet digital imaging head which has diverse applications ranging from photo and repro printing, inkless printing and packaging, to patterning for printed circuit boards/photo resist and printed logic and large-area organic electronics.
LumeJet's direct-write technology offers advantages over competing technologies in imaging quality, production efficiency, format and application flexibility, cost and environmental impact. LumeJet will shortly be launching the LumeJet S200 printer with the best commercial print quality ever achieved, aimed at high value commercial printing sectors.
Langtons, a Carlisle based company producing a boutique gin – Langtons No1. Using locally sourced botanicals and water sourced from the Lake District for its softness and purity Langtons has produced a truly distinct drink. This premium product is good enough to be enjoyed on its own or as a surprising twist on a classic cocktail. The product was launched in selected outlets in October 2012, with a full launch scheduled for the beginning of 2013.
OR Productivity –bringing innovative medical devices to market in the field of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) or ‘keyhole’ surgery. ORPs first product – Freehand, a hands-free laparoscopic camera controller ensures efficient, accurate surgery. Their unique technology helps to reduce costs for hospitals, eliminating the need for an experienced assistant to hold the camera. It also provides a steady image for surgeons, reducing fatigue and ‘sea sickness’. ORP have successfully launched this product and concluded a recent upgrade.
EZBob (Orange Money Limited), the first fully automated online financing platform dedicated to providing SME e-Retailers with instant working capital to support their business needs. Using advanced technology EZBob screens potential businesses for eligibility, and if qualified funding can be received in less than 30 minutes. The entire process takes place online with no paperwork required. Repayments are handled automatically. The platform is currently available to use over a variety of online marketplaces including Amazon and eBay.
Fertility Focus, a Warwick based company, currently with two patent protected products aimed at the growing infertility market. The FertiloScopeTM enables clinicians to explore, diagnose and treat the main physical causes of female infertility in one outpatient procedure. OvusenseTM is an advanced fertility monitor that assists couples in the management of variable ovulation, thereby improving their chances of successful conception. Both products are already available in the market with strong sales figures in a number of countries throughout the world.
Sky Medical, which has developed the OnPulse™ platform, a technology that has been shown to dramatically improve blood flow and elevate blood oxygen levels. The technology has been incorporated into two commercial products. The geko™ ,which is available in the Europe, Australia and Canada, and is being used for the prevention of Deep Vein Thrombosis and the treatment of vascular conditions such as oedema and leg ulcers. The Firefly™ is being used by elite athletes for post-exercise recovery. Firefly™ is being currently being used by several Premiership football teams and national rugby teams.
